As an artist and graphic designer, Chuck Ramirez processed and deconstructed the media world in which he lived. Using typography and digital imaging technology, he isolated and recontextualized familiar objects and texts to explore the human condition. Ramirez was a major force in the San Antonio art community before his untimely death in a 2010 cycling accident.
Ramirez’s work is held in numerous museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Pérez Art Museum Miami; and the Baltimore Museum of Art. In 2017, the McNay Art Museum staged a retrospective of his work, titled Chuck Ramirez: All This and Heaven Too, seven years after the artist’s death at age 48.
