Bio

(b. 1957, San Antonio, Texas)

For nearly fifty years, photographer Al Rendon has been documenting his hometown of San Antonio. From landmarks to community leaders, he has photographed the heart and culture of the city. Starting by capturing the visits of big-name rock bands to San Antonio when he was just sixteen, he continued with photos of Conjunto (Latin musical ensembles) and Tejano (Texan Mexican American) musicians, local artists, street food purveyors, Charreada (rodeo) riders, and ordinary citizens. His most iconic photo is of Selena, Chicana pop star. She used Rendon’s photo as cover art for her Entre A Mi Mundo album. A favourite and enduring image he returns to again and again, is the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Today Rendon is an established photographer whose art photos have been widely published, and whose work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution and in numerous other museums, nationally and internationally. He remains focused on ‘Mi Cultura’.
